Rainy Day Wedding Photography Tips for Brides
So, it’s raining on your wedding day – no need to stress! In fact, many couples find that rainy wedding days lead to some of the most enchanting and unique photos. Here are some tips to help you make the most of the situation.
Q: What do wedding photographers do if it rains?
A: Experienced wedding photographers are well-prepared for all weather conditions and all lighting conditions. When you are interviewing photographers, ask them how they handle rain on a wedding day.
Have them show you images taken at a wedding where it rained. Seeing rainy day photos or night photos they have taken, can really put you at ease on wedding day. Make sure they have a backup plan in place, with alternative indoor locations and creative ideas to make the most of the rainy day.
Q: Can photographers take pictures in the rain?
A: Yes, many photographers are able to capture stunning images in the rain. We utilize all types of tricks to keep you and our equipment out of the rain and still get amazing images.
The most important thing to remember is to keep the chance of rain in your plans when you are choosing your wedding venue, to make sure it has great indoor and covered outdoor spaces for the ceremony, reception and your photography.
Some venues have beautiful outdoor spaces and virtually no plan b options, picking a venue with lots of options you like, is critical to avoiding wedding day rain stress well in advance of your big day!
Tips for the Perfect Rainy Wedding Photoshoot
Embrace the Elements:
Let go of the idea that rain is an obstacle. Instead, we see it as an opportunity to create unique and memorable photos.
Play with the Soft Lighting:
Overcast skies are amazing for photography! They provide soft, diffused lighting that is flattering for outdoor portraits, so don’t be afraid of some cloud cover
Stay Candid:
Rain often leads to spontaneous and candid moments. We love to capture the laughter, the stolen glances, and the genuine emotions that come with the wedding day.
Incorporate Props:
If you like the idea of venturing out into the raindrops, you can bring some added props to the day such as, umbrellas, rain boots or transparent raincoats. They can all be fun additions to your wedding attire.
How to Get Great Wedding Photos, Even if It's Raining
Have a Solid Plan B:
Most importantly, keep the possibility of rain in your mind when you are choosing a venue to make sure it has great indoor and covered outdoor spaces. Make sure your photographer can take great indoor photos as well as outdoor photos before you hire them. If it does happen to rain on wedding day, work with your photographer to create a backup plan for the indoor and outdoor spots you like. You can also consider renting a tent in advance, if you are concerned about rain and you are having an outdoor reception. We can do outdoor pictures under the tent, if necessary.
Consider Indoor Architecture:
Using the unique architectural features of your venue is our main go to if we are unable to get outside. These can make for some stunning indoor shots. Staircases, grand halls, intimate corners and hotel lobbies can all become beautiful backdrops.
Night Time Wedding Photos After the Rain Stops:
Here in Florida we tend to get afternoon storms and then they are gone. If this happens at the wrong time of the day, taking 15-20 minutes out of your reception to go take some amazing night photos outside can get you some stunning photos. Once the rainstorms have passed, the sky can produce some of the most stunning sunsets. Having those extra clouds in the sky for the sunlight to bounce off of can create magic.
Have a Post-Wedding Day Session:
If the weather just doesn’t cooperate on your wedding day and there are not enough spots at your chosen venue to get the shots you dreamed of, schedule a post-wedding photo session with us! A post-wedding day photoshoot can be a delightful extension of your celebration and we can venture out for a relaxed and fun photoshoot without the time constraints of the wedding day. We are happy to work with you to make this as easy as possible.
Capturing the Magic of Rainy Day Weddings
In the end, a rainy wedding day can turn into a story of your love triumphing over unexpected challenges. Your wedding photos will be a testament to your resilience, joy, and the unique beauty that only a rainy day can bring. So, dance in the rain, laugh in the face of drizzles, and let your photographer capture the magic that unfolds when love meets the elements.
Remember, your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and every moment, rain or shine, contributes to the beautiful tapestry of your love story. Embrace the unexpected, cherish the moments, and let your rainy day wedding be a celebration of love that knows no weather boundaries.
